Rooted in the rich heritage of the Punjab Gharana, this teaching methodology centres on passing down the profound spiritual and technical dimensions of Indian hand percussion. Specialising in both the Tabla and the Jori, the instruction bridges deep classical rigour with a versatile, accessible approach to rhythm. Students are offered a comprehensive musical education that goes beyond mere mechanics, focusing heavily on tonal clarity, intricate rhythmic vocabulary, and the soulful expression of rhythm inherited from revered classical traditions.

Structured Curriculum & Learning Pathways

For Beginners

  • Foundations & Technique: Mastery of correct posture, hand placement, and precise finger positioning.

  • Core Exercises: Development of clean stroke production, foundational bols (syllables), and introductory kaidas.

  • Essential Taals: Hands-on training in fundamental rhythmic cycles, including Kehrwa, Dadra, and introductory Teental.

For Intermediate Students

  • Traditional Repertoire: Comprehensive study of traditional kaidas and speed-focused relas.

  • Compositional Structures: Practice and execution of traditional tukdas and mukdas to develop clarity and rhythmic agility. Teaching compositions like Chakradhar

  • Expanded Rhythmic Landscapes: In-depth exploration of traditional compositions across varied time cycles, including Teental, Ektaal, Jhaptal, and Rupak.

Every rhythm carries the blessings of a guru.

Every musician is a reflection of the knowledge passed down through generations. My musical journey has been enriched by the guidance of revered gurus belonging to the Punjab Gharana and the wider tradition of Indian classical music.

Each mentor has contributed uniquely to my musical growth, helping me develop a deeper appreciation for rhythm, expression, accompaniment, solo performance and the timeless traditions of our art form.

It is this priceless legacy that I strive to preserve and pass on to my own students.

Ustad Kulwinder Singh

My tabla training has been profoundly shaped by the guidance of Ustad Kulwinder Singh, a revered exponent of the Punjab Gharana. As a senior disciple of the legendary Ustad Allah Rakha Khan, Ustad Kulwinder Singh instilled in me not only the intricate technical vocabulary of the gharana—its lightning-fast relas and complex tihais—but also a deep reverence for the instrument's rich cultural heritage.

His teaching methodology went beyond mere mechanics; it was a holistic approach that emphasized the soul and discipline required to truly master the rhythm. Through his patient, individualized instruction and his dedication to preserving the traditional "Puraatan" repertoire, he provided me with a foundational understanding of Indian classical music that continues to resonate in every performance I give.

Ustad Fazal Qureshi

My musical journey has been deeply enriched by the insights and guidance of Ustad Fazal Qureshi. Immersing myself in his teachings offered me a direct connection to the expansive rhythmic vocabulary of the Punjab Gharana. He possesses a rare ability to demystify complex polyrhythms and intricate traditional compositions, making them accessible without ever compromising their inherent classical rigor.

What profoundly impacted my training the most was his unique approach to musical versatility. While insisting on absolute clarity of tone and strict adherence to traditional discipline, he also encouraged a broader, more open-minded perspective towards rhythm. Learning from his collaborative spirit taught me how the tabla can seamlessly converse with diverse musical genres, fundamentally shaping my own voice, confidence, and adaptability as a percussionist.
